Ed. Note — On Saturday 6 May and Sunday 7 May, SEEN LIBRARY installed a pop-up bookstand filled with carefully wrapped books, delightful local foodstuffs and thoughtfully designed artisan products to engage all who came to indulge.

Described as ‘a community encouraging less time spent looking down at our phones and more towards the pages of a book… Seen Library is a place where people can bond over impactful stories and needed perspectives, especially those told by historically excluded voices’, the books on offer are wrapped in beautiful cream craft paper, obscuring the book’s cover.

The only clue to the book’s contents are a nostalgia-inducing library card with a handwritten description of how the book feels, what the book may lead one towards, and a quote from the book — out of context. It’s the best surprise a bibliophile could gift, or receive, as they gently expand their presence into more thoughtful places. Watch this space.

Welcoming the day.
Stacked up.
See you next time.

Burntsienna Field Research is our invitation to explore art, culture, and the built environment on foot, through the lens of photography. Excursions are organized as group explorations, or encouraged as solo iterations. Facilitated by Jason E.C. Wright, BRS, and various guests and friends of the institute, the excursions take place in various locales. This particular excursion took place in Los Angeles, on the unceded ancestral lands of the Tongva people.
